So, as usual, I'm running late again - working 2 jobs, raising a
family and dealing with life will do that to you. But, as usual,
it will get done.
Six
-never mind, - three new wads (stupid Terry Wads) on the
archives this week plus all the other news from around the
community, so without any further delay - here we go.....
First -
WElcome to the "warning zone"
To start with - stay away
from "butthurt" - Terrywad.
Warning. Danger
Will Robinson - Danger.
Likewise, don't bother wasting your time on "Descrate.wad" - "descr.zip".
Another joke/terry wad and not worth the time or effort to even
bother with. To continue on with the tedium of looking over
garbage posted by trolls on the archives - stay away from
"desec2.zip" by buntcakester@yahoo.com. The only reason I
mention them at all is to save you from the bs I put up with.
Please feel free to send this ahole a note thanking him for
wasting Ty Hemingways time, though.
P.S. All of the maps are direct linked in my personal back up
of the archives (except for the stupid joke/terry wads) along with GOD KNOWS how many others for Doom,
Doom2, Doom3, ROE, Wolfenstein 3D, Castle Wolfenstein, Duke 3d,
Strife, Hexen, Heretic and more
here
=============================================================================
Finally, after wasting my time taking a look at the first
three maps I came across which were all Terry/joke wads, I
finally came across this one:
Title : El Último Pasajero (The Last
Passenger)
File Name :
EUP.wad (direct link)
Author : RicarDooM
E-mail : ricar_doom@yahoo.com.mx
Web page : http://www.geocities.com/zonamotion
Release date : May 2005
Description : Map built for the "5th Cabro's Map Tournament" at
Kuso-
Güeb.
All maps in the
Doom2/ports/d-f category
After several days, the ship RDM82 is arriving to Deimos. Hard
days, but
the experiments have ended succesfully. At the moment there
haven't been
problems in the trip, and not later than tomorrow the ship will
land and
the soldiers will return to Mars to take a well deserved rest.
Suddenly, is heard a strange sound, it looks that there are
problems in
the cargo hold where the experiments' specimens are kept. It
seems that has
happened a catastrophe. Of the 26 soldiers on board only one
remains alive,
who has tried to report the problem, but unluckily the radio
doesn't work,
and the only chance is to reach the escape pod, but it is on the
other side
and you'll have to pass through the specimen's hold.
Good luck, soldier!
A quick look around confirmed this is an
actual wad and while it starts off rather slow, it looks like
the design might actually be fairly decent and play becomes more
difficult as you move on....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behind door number two, we have a
megawad (23 levels) by the name of
Lost Maps, which the author explains thusly:
Description : Putting here all the
unofficial maps I've made so
far(they were either made randomly and
accidently, some were made for a show off, some
were rejected, some are just birthday maps and
so.
STORY:The arch-vile responsible of the four sins
is teleporting you quite a while, show him that
you're too tough to get in a fight with.
I took the time to play just a tiny bit of this -
you'll see the cage match he set up in Level 1 is where I
stopped there as I don't have all day to play with Hellknights.
But I got enough of a look to know that....
1. There is the "possibility" of some fun in these maps
2. I can see why they were never released before
3. The design (at least what I've seen so far) isn't all
that good
4. The splash screen is the most interesting thing I've
seen so far

This map - and other megawads can be found
in
Doom2/ports/megawads
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, and perhaps
mercifully, I've reached the final map in this weeks TWID
Chrinicles. It is called dutifully enough -
A wad made by Ruben (revised). There is no description to
speak of - it's 17 maps for Doom 2.
Let's go to the screenshots....

And the verdict is? This is definitely the
best of the lot from last week and you have 17 maps to discover
what else the author has in store for you.
========================================================================================
So now, hitting the internet to see what else
is going on in the Doom community, I hit up a couple of my favorite
haunts - Doomworld Forums and Zdoom forums but didn't really scare up
anything there so I moved on to
One Man Doom to find a new
review from last week.
Here,he reviews a map called
Going Down and it looks like this:
Imagine a Doom megaWAD
built entirely out of set pieces. You know, those cool, memorable areas
that usually end up as encounter highlights in larger levels. Well,
that's basically Going
Down in
a nutshell. It's kind of like the playing space of 1024 projects
without the absolute restrictions or the attempt to cram as much
gameplay and map as possible into a PWAD entry.

That actually looks really sweet. I'd head on over there and check that
shit out RIGHT NOW!. :-)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moving on to
Wads in Progress, I spy
one new WIP from last week called
Respawned:
Back from Hell.
Based on the screenies, and the text file -
looking pretty interesting.....
Respawned: Back from Hell is a vanilla Doom 2
project with focus on single player and cooperative play. This will be a
semi-megawad with about 10 maps. I attempt to create a set of levels
where every map is different from the other, and yet where type of play
maintains consistency.

So, head on over there to scope out the rest
of that text file and to see more screenshots.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over at
Realm667,
Tormentor continues to tweak the new website with a Chat System,
ala Facebook with all kinds of cool features.. So be sure to
check that out. Tormentor is a legend in the Doom Community and
has a really nice setup over there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I took a trip over to
Risen3d and much to my
pleasant surprise I discovered that they released a new version
yesterday, so not technically last week but this is news that I
think needs to be made known sooner rather than later, seeing as
I think this is one of the better ports available for gameplay
and pure aesthetics. This is the changelog they have listed:
Changes over v220-27 ...
Following a forum request dropping the console now suspends any
game that may be in progress until raised again.
If the previous behaviour is wanted then use SHIFT + the console
key.
Smoothing with movement in the vertical axis (e.g. when enemies
are walking up or down slopes in R3D maps) has
been improved.
On rare occasions cacos could 'vibrate' up and down when
stationary in certain circumstances. Although difficult to
either emulate or track down it is believed that this has now
been fixed.
A small rendering error was spotted with S540 in btsx_e1 map12
that had previously been missed. This was caused
by an analysis error that has now been fixed.
Tested with btsx_e2_b2 with support files updated to work with
btsx_e2a.
Scripted push objects bug fixed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last
but not least, here are some of the new youtube
playthroughs available for your to peruse.
Cyberdemon531 (a rather prolific youtuber) comes to us with
this:
Doom:
Memento Mori Episode 2 UV Speed in 26:09
And this:
Doom:
Memento Mori Episode 1 UV Speed in 18:34
That about does it for THIS WEEK IN DOOM. I chose not to
bother with playthroughs this week as it seems that nobody
really gives a shit and I'm like super exhausted but like I said
- nobody cares anyway. They're a nice little add-in I guess but
if you really want to see the newest play throughs - you can go
to /r/doom on reddit
and check out the posts. Also, if you're into the whole reddit
thing, you can find us over at
r/doomwadstation. Peace.
