Doom Wad Station IS
Doom! This site is dedicated to Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 and
focuses on the reviews and downloads that you are looking for.
It's main focus is and always will be the Doom franchise. Now in
it's 16th year, the site has seen many changes from it's humble,
original beginnings, as Bob's Doom and Doom 2 site. It will
continue to evolve with the ID Software community but it's main
focus will remain - the DOOM franchise! Here, you will find Doom
map reviews, Doom 2 map reviews, Doom 3 map reviews, total
conversions and wads and maps for Doom, Doom II and Doom3. You
will also find tons of maps for Wolfenstein 3d, Castle
Wolfenstein, Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 and Quake 4 as well as
Hexen, Hexen2, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3d, Strife and so much more! Enjoy perusing the site and discovering the hidden
treasures within. Doom Wad Station IS the most complete site of
it's kind. Enjoy! |

this week
in doom is my attempt at keeping you abreast of all the goings on in
the DOOM community and, as you will notice, a busy community it is. It's
difficult to believe that after 20 years this game's community is still as
active as it is but, of course, ID Software has helped by releasing Doom 3
10 years ago (or thereabouts) and is now in the process of the new DOOM game
(sometime in 2015?). Can't wait to see the beta shareware, or whatever
it's going to be.....
|
I honestly thought there would be more this week, due to the
longer interval between my shortened week release last week and
now and there was quite a bit going on but there was far less on
the archives than I was expecting - only two doom 2 maps and one
doom map but there was plenty going on in other places including
a couple of updated releases of the Doomsday Engine. So, let's
not waste any time and get right to it. I'll begin with an
update from a project I'm certain we are all anxiously
anticipating...
P.S. All of the maps are direct linked in my personal back
up of the archives along with GOD KNOWS how many others for
Doom, Doom2, Doom3, ROE, Wolfenstein 3D, Castle Wolfenstein,
Duke 3d, Strife, Hexen, Heretic and more
here
=============================================================================
The
creators of Brutal Doom released a
new video
on youtube this week
putting on display some of the new blood effects they are
working on.
HOLY BLOODFEST! You have GOT to see this! If you are NOT
anxiously awaiting release 20 of this unbelievable mod, then you
haven't seen the videos yet. lol
======================================================================================
Over on the
Zdoom forums, I came
across several projects with updates
I came
across this little tidbit about a (WIP) called SCP Doom
Experiment V0.6-pre2
here's a
link to the thread
And a bit from what the author has to say:
SCP - Doom Experiment is a horror mod project for (G)ZDoom. It
is based on the game SCP -
Containment Breach and was inspired by a similar project by
kevansevans.
SCP-173 is the main enemy in the game. You will have to try to
maintain direct eye contact with it
in order for it not to attack you. The mod has a blinking
mechanic, you can blink manualy but it
is also done automaticly. SCP-173 will move towards you
everytime you blink or don't look at it.
There are also many more SCPs in the mod, and even more will be
added in the future. Big thanks to
kevansevans for the base code for SCP-173 and the blinking
mechanic which I both modified.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, on the
Zdoom forums
I found a new gameplay trailer for a project called:
GMOTA: Fantasy arcade action, [v0.9.3] (where
do they get these version numbers?)
You can go
watch the video here
and
read the thread here
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sticking with the Zdoom forums.
This gameplay video
was released for
Resident EVIL 2 Extreme battle for gzdoom/zandronum
Here's the thread
It looks pretty damn good, although - I have to admit - 3rd
person perspective isn't usually my favorite style of gameplay.
Here is another
gameplay video
from the same mod.
This is a REALLY good looking mod and it appears that the author
switched over from the Resident Evil modding community to do
this in Doom(2).
I don't see a download for this in the thread so I'm assuming
there isn't one but man, I'm kinda chomping at the bit to see
one because the Resident Evil movies are some of my favorites
and the later Resident Evil games (specifically 4 and 5) were
awesome.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I
also noted that Kontra Kommando stated in his
Zdoom thread
for
Aliens:The Ultimate Doom (TC)
That there will be an updated release this weekend. I guess
we'll be discussing THAT release NEXT
TWID.
This project was
reviewed recently
on
Doom Wad Station
A really good looking mod - REALLY tough.
Looking forward to that update. Don't forget to let me know when
it is released, Kontra. ;-)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again - sticking with project updates on the Zdoom forums, I
came across this one
World War II Deathmatch [Weapons
Mod] [Beta v3]
Here is the
direct download link
on Mediafire
What is World War 2 Deathmatch.
Inspired by The multiplayer mode of Call of Duty and Medal of
Honor and multiplayer based games
like Counter Strike. World War II DM takes the typical DooM
Deathmatch and gives it a more
tactical feel with the various weapons from World War II. It
replaces all the weapons with WWII
weapons.

Over on
One Man Doom, A couple
of new reviews for your reading pleasure:
20 Years of Doom
Click on the pic to go to the review page.

The French Doom Community wanted to pay
tribute to Doom on its 20th anniversary. What better way than a
trip down memory lane? The plan: condense the original trilogy
into one single episode by conflating some of the most prominent
elements of every three levels, all working in Boom- compatible
ports. Interested authors claimed slots and did their best, but
don't expect a slavish reinterpretation of the original Doom.
Sure, you're gonna get a few homages. When you're doing Doom
tributes, it seems to be practically unavoidable, even in 2014.
I think it works, though, and these maps are anything but
reference-composed patchwork. 20 Years of Doom proves again the
vibrancy of Doom's international theater as its long legacy
drags on, grunting and moaning.
The direct download for the file can be found on
this page
ALSO on One Man Doom is this one entiled
"Berserk" by Jon Landis

From the review:
Jon Landis had a pretty full career in the
early days of Doom history. He authored an episode for Doom (Eye
of the Beholder), a tricksy minisode of Doom II levels (Eye of
the Beholder II), and contributed a few levels to
STRAIN.
This little level (well, maybe not little) is
BERSERK,
his first offering, not to
be found included in Eye of the Beholder along with his other E2
levels. And, well, for reasons you might find evident on a
cursory viewing. Berserk has some of Landis's quirks that he
would carry on to his later outings, but it's a very rough
construction, released in 1994 for the E2M1 slot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The folks working on the "Doomsday
Engine" released a new version this week
(actually, just on Friday) - Build 1343
There are releases for both Windows and OSX available on the
download page
Also released was version 1340
which has downloads for far more operating systems:
Windows
OS X
Ubuntu (32 and 64 bit) as well as a release of the source code.
Both builds are released as "unstable" which simply means that
they haven't been fully tested. You
can hit up the main page for the most recent stable versions as
well.
I did not see a changelog anywhere.
I took the opportunity (since there was a new map in the
archives this week that didn't require a specific port) to try
this out... I'm fairly impressed. Zdoom has far more options, as
far as I can tell but I honestly loved the easy manner in which
I was able to load up maps for the game and even use the
developer mode to add command line options. Well done.
Here are a couple of screenshots from one of my older maps
called
Elevator 2 (a Doom 2
conversion of the original Doom map). It wasn't bad but by my
standards today, I would have done alot better. :-)
But, I tried to make it fun - and difficult.

========================================================================================
Also this week - (almost forgot to add this) are this bunch of
playthroughs that I'm certain you'll enjoy.
Knee Deep in Hell - E2M3

And then
there is this one:

Doom WAD Playthrough - Knee Deep

=============================================================
And - last
but certainly not least - the 3 maps released this week.
|
|
Let's start with the
lone addition to the DOOM section of the archives this week:
Murata 731
First - a screnshot.

As you can see - at least in the beginning of this one - there are
alot of shardes of gray, if you will. The welcoming screen was somewhat
poorly done and as you can see, the use of textures leaves a little to
be desired - those ceiling tiles are horrible, btw. Just saying.
From the text file:
Description :
A war mod loosely based on true events.
Reload function, Extra deaths, Bullet and shell
casing, Blood splatters and drops, Custom music
by Splintered Gypsy, Gore, and a lot more added.
Now, I'll be honest, I only JUST got into this one, so I can't say
much about it except for what is based on those first impressions - the
beginning area is BORING - very large, not much going on and not
much to see. Hopefully THAT will improve as the level goes on but it
looks interesting enough that it will be worth exploring and explore I
will - but first, I have to finish TWID. :-)
One thing I will give the wad high marks for right off the bat
- THE MUSIC! Awesome. I didn't recognize the music but in some way I
feel like I did - very heavy metalish. I think you'll like it.
By the way - even though I didn't really get it right away, this
seems to be a 9 level replacement. Just thought you might want to
know.....

Quality Control
Advanced engine needed : None - so a perfect opportunity for me
to try out the new release of the Doomsday Engine.
* Play Information *
Game : Doom 2
Map # : MAP01
Single Player : Designed for
Cooperative 2-4 Player : No
Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No
Other game styles : None
Difficulty Settings : Not implemented
I just want to say right off the bat -
how the HELL did this get on the archives?
Here is the situation. You materialize in a
BLAND room surrounded by Cyberdemons, and Spider Masterminds. I
tried three times before I gave up - no place to hide, no weapons.
So I loaded it up with
-nomonsters and took a look around. Single
room - ends at a shittily constructed looking door which is the exit
apparently. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. DON'T BOTHER! The only GOOD
thing that came out of this experience was that I got to try out the
Doomsday Engine - now THAT at least, kicked ass.
I would like to say to the author, however -
Thanks for wasting my *&$%(#()@ time. Apparently you accomplished
your goal of being a complete ass.
You can play it - but don't say I didn't
warn you.
