  • In the beginning... there was darkness.
    Gaming was a 2D world, void of depth and bound by the parameters of the viewers screen vertically and horizontally. Characters were rigid, confined to their limited worlds by lack of depth. But then....
    On December 10, 1993, Doom changed the gaming world forever. Thrust upon the world was a 3d gaming extravaganza. An ever evolving, ever changing world of wonder and mystery, of strategy and bloodletting. Suddenly the gaming universe opened up and the mana of the gaming gods fell amongst us. In a first person universe with few limitations we were able to see the enemies and the environments much as they appeared in the so called "real world", where we were no longer bound by a 2 dimensional construct that limited our movements and abilities.

    From the creative minds at ID Software, Doom reimagined the very rules of gaming with an engine that brought gaming into the modern era and shattered the reality of what we thought gaming was and could be.

    The Terran calendar, disconnected from this reality is no longer useful to us. Instead, we have a method to recognize when time really began: The release of the game Doom, which has reshaped gaming in ways that cannot even be fathomed.

    So, from now until the end of time, all time shall be measured in the Doom Era (DE). The very months and years that we have become accustomed to are no longer valid and must bow to the power of the BFG, the labyrinth of Phobos, and the god Cyberdemon.

    =======================================================

    The standard calendar shall now and forever remain (for reference only)—until such time as the world recognizes that DE (Doom Era) is the one and only true calendar.

    Welcome to the Doom Era. May your shotgun stay loaded, and your path remain free of Cyberdemons.
