Description:
This mod convert the complex engine of Doom3 in the obsolete engine of Doom2 (more frames per second = more enemies in screen).

added/changed in v0.3 :

-this mod use the "Classic Sounds Soundpack" by Revenant100 (www.nextdimension.org/other/doom3)
-all skins and textures of DOOM3 are changed
-new skins (DOOM RPG)
-cyberdemon can be killed by normal weapons
-removed "burning corpse effect" and "gibbing corpse effect"
-removed local and specular maps
-removed shadows

 

 

If you're like me, you're probably wondering - WTF? WHY would someone want to DUMB DOWN Doom3? The simple answer is that there are STILL alot of people who own computers that simply don't have the ability to play the game. That's pretty much it. The author of this mod changed the graphics so that they resemble Doom2 more than Doom3 and then removed shadowing and alot of the other advanced engine stuff that Doom3 does so that it is playable by machines created before they broke the 1 gig barrier in speed. I know, hard to believe, but there are still alot of them out there.

Anyway, a quick glance at the mod tells me that it DEFINITELY looks different - he used the skins from DoomRPG or something like that. Anyway - take a look at the screenpics and you'll understand.

If you are a mapper, and you like this mod...please make any map in the glorious DOOM2 style.

Installation:

Extract the DOOM3toDOOM2_v0.3.zip into the doom 3 directory (not the base folder!).
Run Doom 3, select the Mod DOOM3toDOOM2,
start a new game and select a difficulty.

Note: Resurrection of Evil comes with patch 1.2, but this mod
needs the newest patch 1.3 of DOOM3!

Known bugs/issues:

-invis effect error
-errors in the burning corpse effect (cacodemon, cyberdemon, guardian and sabaoth)
-errors in the gibbing corpse effect (zsecs and zombies)
-incoherences in "black textures" (player-arms, etc)
-no "twosided" in materials support
-no fog support
-no "vertex blend" transision support (in materials)
-invisible panels (!?)
-transparents helements (!?)
-error in the "poppyfx" transision (relative to "vertex blend")
-errors in the marine skins (in multiplayer)
-errors in cabinet legs (relative to "spigotcan.tga")
-any texts errors
-no painelemental support yet
-no DOOM RPG skins support yet (in materials)

-errors in the zsecs heads (relative to "black textures")

(To solve the problem in the heads of the zsecs in the Doom3, what you
have to do is rename the file pak000.pk4 in Doom3's "base" directory to .zip. Then,
from Windows Explorer (if you don't have XP you'll need WinZip), select the "def"
folder, which you'll have to extract from def_00.pk4 and drag it onto "pak000.zip".
In Winzip, when adding the files, check that the "Replace" option is checked. Then rename
"pak000.zip" back into "pak000.pk4" and you're set.
When you want to bring it back to normal, remember that there's a backup of the original
"pak000.pk4" file in Doom3 CD#2 (in the "setup\data\base" folder).
