While I don't think this is Ray's best effort as far as difficulty and playability goes, it is still far beyond the average map that I turn away time and again on Doom Wad Station. I am in awe of his ability to make a really FINE looking map and his ability to keep the gameplay interesting and fairly constant. Don't let this one slip away!

     This is a tough one. The map started off pretty slow with very few bad guys to beat up on and plenty of health and ammo to do the job. Then I entered that large area with the cool structures that you see in the pictures below and I waited for the shoe to drop. Well, it did. I promptly got my ass kicked. Also on the second attempt. I adapted, made some changes to my strategy and.... well, I'll let you figure it out. After that, it didn't really get any easier but I played smarter. I'm not saying I didn't get caught out a couple more times but overall, on ultra violence, it could have been harder. Keep in mind, I'm pretty good, not great, but pretty good, so you may have an easier or more difficult time depending on your skill level. For an above average doomer with plenty of experience who knows how to move though, you probably won't put this at the top of your difficulty list but it was fun and challenging at points  


Playability -  rating: 7

     I'm afraid to say that once you've done this one, you'll probably have to relegate it to your used folder for some time before taking the time again. It isn't a very large map and while I found myself begging for more while I was playing it, once it was over, it was over. Don't get me wrong, it is a very cool map with lots of fragging to be had but replay wise it doesn't hold much interest. For those who aren't good on the tactics side of the game, you may be in there for awhile so grab a couple of beers and some nachos and have a good time!


Level Design -  rating: 10

     This is why this guy is one of my favorite authors. I am in absolute AWE at some of the architecture and detail that has gone into this map. It is absolutely breathtaking and unquestionably, when you have time to look around, do so. There is some very cool stuff to look at in here. I would download this map for the design alone, never mind anything else. I still think that Ray is one of the best mappers out there, even if he did make this map a little less difficult than I thought it could have been. For the average doomer this map will be pretty tough and everyone should be impressed by the design. It is typically awesome, as is usually the case when Ray makes a Doom2 map.
